Overview

The World Garba Challenge is an international dance competition celebrating Garba, a traditional Indian folk dance. Held in Dubai, the event brings together performers from around the globe to showcase their talent and cultural heritage. The website serves as the central platform for event information, performer registration, and audience engagement.

My Role

Lead Designer & Developer: Responsible for the end-to-end design and development of the website.

Challenges

Cultural Representation: Designing a website that authentically represents the vibrant and traditional aspects of Garba while appealing to a global audience.

  1. User Engagement: Encouraging registrations and participation through an intuitive and engaging user interface.

  2. Responsive Design: Ensuring optimal performance and aesthetics across various devices and screen sizes.

Design Solutions

Visual Aesthetics: Employed a rich color palette inspired by traditional Garba attire, incorporating patterns and motifs that reflect the cultural essence of the dance.
  • Interactive Elements: Integrated dynamic galleries and performer highlights to showcase past events and build excitement.
  • Clear Call-to-Actions: Strategically placed registration buttons and contact information to facilitate user interaction and conversion.

Visual Design & UI Approach

TTo capture the energy and tradition of Garba on a global stage, I crafted a vibrant, immersive, and culturally rich interface using a mix of modern and traditional design elements.
Tools Used:
Framer:
Used as the primary design and development platform, Framer allowed me to: Rapidly prototype and iterate with real-time preview Implement smooth page transitions and interactive components Easily manage responsive layouts and CMS-driven content Leverage native animations to add celebratory, festive energy to the user experience.
Photoshop:
Used to design hero visuals, textured backgrounds, and traditional motifs Created custom overlays and lighting effects for the homepage banner and performer sections Enhanced photography with a dramatic, concert-style color treatment to amplify excitement and energy.
Color Palette: Deep royal blue, gold gradients, and spotlight-inspired glow, capturing the essence of night-time Garba events.
Typography: Elegant serif for titles paired with modern sans-serif for body, balancing tradition with a contemporary tone.
Festive Motifs: Garba dancers, dandiya sticks, and stage lights subtly integrated to reinforce the cultural theme
CTA Highlights: Clear and bold “Register Now” buttons, styled in contrast to stand out across sections.

Development & Approach

• Built on Framer:
Leveraged Framer for its flexibility, animation support, and responsive design capabilities. It allowed quick prototyping, clean transitions, and an easy-to-update CMS structure for the event team.
Responsive Design: Optimized across devices for mobile-first users, especially important for social promotions
Fast & SEO-friendly: Framer’s performance tools ensured fast load times and smooth navigation

Results

• Increased Registrations: Post-launch analytics indicated a 40% increase in performer registrations compared to the previous year.

• Enhanced Visibility: The website contributed to a significant uptick in social media engagement and event awareness.
